a.alovelygirl一个可爱的女孩在这个短语中,lovely是形容词做定语来修饰名词girl.
b.agirlwholikespurple一个喜欢紫色的女孩wholikespurple
是一个句子来修饰名词girl,它的作用与lovely相同,都是做定语修饰名词girl,我们把它称为定语从句。
请注意,形容词做定语修饰名词,一般放在名词之前;而从句作定语修饰名词,则要放在名词之后。下面我们具体了解定语从句。

在复合句中修饰名词或代词的从句叫做定语从句。被定语从句修饰的名词或代词叫做先行词。引导定语从句的词称为关系词,有关系代词和关系副词两类。在本单元中,我们只涉及到关系代词。

(3)定语从句分限定性定语从句和非限定性定语从句。非限定性定语从句是对先行词所做的附加说明,它同主句的关系不是十分密切,即使省了,并不影响主句意义的明确或完整。非限定性定语从句一般用“,”与主句隔开。引导非限定性定语从句的关系代词不可省略,that不能引导非限定性定语从句。
