Teaching Procedures

Step 1 Revision

Talk about Charlie Chaplin according to Ex 1 and Ex2 P. 94.

Step 2 Lead-in

Introduce them some Charlie Chaplin' films:“Gold Rush”“City Light”“Modern Times”“The Great Dictator”and so on.

Step 3 Watching the video

Get the Ss to read the text quickly.Then choose the right answers.

2 The story of “The Gold Rush” happened ____.

A. in the 1750s  B. in the 1950s

Step 4 Language study

1 SB Page 28, Part 2. Explain that the non-restrictive Attributive clause gives extra information. It is written with commas. The conjunction“that”can not be used.

2 SB Page 28 Part 3. Fill in the blanks by themselves, and then check the answers with the whole class.

Step 5 Practice

SB Page 29, Part 4.Go through the two example sentences.Tell the Ss to pay attention to the prepositions before“which”and“whom”. We can not use“that”or “who”here. Then Let the Ss work by themselves and check the answers with the whole class.

Step 6 Writing

SB Page 29 Part 5.

1.Teach the word“piano”“pianist”and“exciting”.

2.Write the answers in random order on the Bb for the Ss to choose.

3.Make sure the Ss understand the passage by asking them questions.Give them explanations if necessary.

Step 7 Homework

Finish off the workbook exercises.

1. What does a director do at the very beginning?

2. How long do they usually spend pracitising the play?

3. What kind of plays does the director love very much?

4. What is very important for the director?

1. Get the Ss to read the dialogue in pairs. You may wish to ask one pair to act the scene in front of the class.

2 SB Part 2. P. 25. Get the Ss to work in pairs. One is a journalist, the other is a director, using the questions on the left. Demonstrate the question and answer practice with a good student.

J: What do you do in the theatre?

D: I’m an director. I direct a play.

J: What are you doing at present?

D: We are practising doing a play.

J: What do you enjoy doing most of all?

D: I enjoy directing dancing.

J: What are your plans for the future?

D: I intend to direct another comedy. I hope to put on the play next year.

Step Ⅵ Exercise

Do WB Ex 2 P. 93 Complete the dialogue in pairs. Then check the answers with the whole class and ask the Ss to read aloud.

Step 1 Revision

2. Revise the dialogue in Lesson 17. Ask the students to recite and act out the dialogue.

Step 2 Presentation

Ask the students if they have heard of Charlie Chaplain and if they have seen any of his film.

Step 3 Listening

Get the Ss to listen to the tape of passage and then answer the following questions.

1.What kind of film s did Charlie Chaplin act in ?

Get the Ss to read the passage carefully. Ask them to find more information about Charlie Chaplin.

Who can tell me the meaning of “architect”. (a person who designs buildings). He lived in this house when he was young. Do you think this house beautiful or not beautiful? (not beautiful) Can you use another word to replace “not beautiful”. (ugly). So when he became an architect, he designed some pretty houses. Not long ago he designed a new house for me. Let’s go and see my new house.

Step 2, Vocabulary

T: Welcome to my new house. Could you say something about my new home?

T: I’m not alone here, because I have two neighbors. Do you know who are they and where they live? (nest, dog house)

T: Let’s learn some new words of house.(balcony concrete nest brick roof)

Try to remember these new words, then fill in the blanks.

T: in all these sentences we use a sentence pattern—“have something done”.

Now let’s see the pairs of sentences, and compare A and B.

A: I found myself tied to a tree.

B: I found myself walking in a forest.

Watch more sentences on page 22.

Examine all the sentences carefully, and find out when we use –ing form and when we use –ed form.

→ passive voice: -ed

active voice: -ing

Look at the pictures, can you find out another difference between –ing form and –ed form.

1.T show a picture of Tiger or movie clips of Northeastern Tiger in Northeast. Ask them some questions as follows:

2.Write the following words on the Bb,

FACTS: (5-10 million, one per one year, one per one day, 1/2 million )

1. Listen and read aloud the text after the tape. Pay attention to intonation and pronunciation. Ask Ss to try to find the answers or key words for the topics on the Bb.

How many Pandas are in the World? Why they are few? What can we do to protect them? and so on.

Step VI Reading comprehension

A Day in the Forest

Ss come to the blackboard to write down all the past participle they can find from the passage and then are asked to pick out those that can be used as adjectives

Step VII Watching and Listening

Please answer these questions after that.

1.What was the purpose of the trip of the students to the forest?

2. What were the students given when they arrived and what did they have to do with them?

3. What did the monitor and the writer decide to find in the forest?

4. Why did they put some water into a bottle after lunch?

5. What was Sun Yao doing when his classmates found him?
